This house was built by my husbands Family. His father was brought up here.

Phil Armstrong from Seaford posted this comment on Tuesday 25 March 2014 11:35:00.

Am I right that this was formerly the Police Training establishment where I received my basic training in 1967? If it is, then at the time we were led to believe that Canadial troops had been billeted there during WWII.

Bruce Richardson from ex-Nutfield posted this comment on Monday 29 August 2016 07:34:00.

No the Police Training establishment was on Coopers Hill Road round the corner.

I worked at this property in the 50's when it was known as Adastral House (probably because the then owner was a pilot in the RAF). It was a beautiful building in magnificent grounds and the photographs show that it has been tastefully restored to its former glory. I would love the opportunity to visit it again but as I am in my early 80's and no longer drive, this is unlikely.

Entrance to Capenor, Nutfield. Unknown date. Allen Stores.

Comment 1

Bruce Richardson from Heswall posted this comment on Monday 21 January 2013 21:39:00.

Capenor was originally the name of what is now Robert Denholm House. This is the old entrance by the Lodge. Coopers Hill Road is on the right of the frame, the roof on the right still exists.

When the estate was broken up in the mid 1960's the name of Capenor was taken by the buildings that where the stables, behind the lodge in Coopers Hill Road.

Comment 2

Stella Granville (ex Skelton) from Redhill posted this comment on Sunday 13 May 2018 10:40:21.

Hello Bruce. I stayed with my aunt, Christiane Hughes, who bought the one corner of Capenor that was the old stables. She did massive conversions on it. I remember your mother. Also the Tophams who lived next door.
