Does anyone remember a house called "Lone Oak" in Cormongers Lane? I think it was demolished around the early 1960's. As the name implies, it had one Oak tree in the front garden, and was quite a large house.

I kmew Loneoak well as I lived there for many years.I might have a photograph if its of any interest to you. The house had been built by Hughie Nicholds a well known hunting man and had five stables and a coach house

Thank you for replying, that sounds really interesting. I'd love to see a photograph of Loneoak if you can find it sometime. My partner lived there for approx 10 years from around 1952 - 1959. He has fond memories of the house and grounds, and is trying to research into his family's roots etc. Kind Regards.

My family, the Cutcliffes, were the sole occupants of Lone Oak from 1936 to 1956 (last date approx). So maybe your partner may have known our family in which case I may be able to help with information.

Thanks for replying. My partner tells me that he, his sister and parents moved to Loneoak around 1956 (he thinks he was around 12 years of age) - approximate dates. So probably he and his family were the next occupiers after the Cutcliffes, although he doesn't remember that name. He does remember Mr & Mrs Stone and their daughters Pat & Wendy who lived opposite the Stable Block. It would be interesting to hear any more memories, and also any photographs that you may have. Many thanks for you time.

Hi, my Partner, Roland, was interested to read your post. He says he knew your mum and dad, Henry, very well. His Sister, Jennifer used to go to school with Wendy. He used to work with your Grandad at Fullers Earth in the 60's.

Hi Ivor,

I'm Roland (Ron). Nice to hear from you. Shame that there's now nothing of the old place to look back on. It would be great to find some photos of the old places around that area. Yes, I did used to be a keen biker in those days. I hope I didn't cause you too much trouble!! Hope you're keeping well, best wishes.

Ron Humphries.

Hello Nancy Davison: We would be very interested in seeing a photo of Lone Oak from the time that you lived there and to make contact with you. I am helping my friend, Veronica, with tracing her family history. She is the niece of Reginald Mervyn Athelstan Davison and she remembers meeting you and your daughter - probably at Lone Oak - when she was a little girl along with her twin sister and older sister. If you pick this up, please email us at v.trenchard@btinternet.com. Many thanks - Janie
