My great great great grandfather Thomas Elliott was the toll gate collector at this gate between 1847 and 1851. He also lived in the toll house with his wife Jane and their children. I have a copy of the original accounts of money taken at the gate by my ancestor. In 1849 he took a total of 240 pounds & 9s at the gate.

I am almost sure that my great great grandfather William Elliott was born in the tollhouse.
