Aldersyde. 1928. The Powell family lived at Bodleian House, Doods Park Road in 1911, but appeared to live at Aldersyde when their son Kenneth Powell died in France on 18th February 1915. Was this house renamed? This postcard was sent by Mary S. Powell on 16th June 1928.

I am related to the Powell family and can tell you from my family archives that they this wasn't a rename. I remember visiting Aldersyde as a child. The Powells had previously lived in a substantial house called Ivanhoe located between Alder's road and Wray Park Road. Ivanhoe sported its own cricket pitch with pavillion and tennis courts. I have pictures. They did live for a brief time at Bodleian House (see 1911 Census) but were established in Aldersyde by WW1. I can probably find more interesting facts for anyone who is interested.

I too would love a copy of this photograph if possible. I have lived with my family in Aldersyde since 1981 and would dearly love to find out more of the history of the house and its former owners.

Mark, I am the new owner of Aldersyde and am very interested in finding out facts relating to the house. We are enjoying it wonderfully and are refurbishing the house at present to ensure it lives on for many more years!

Hello Dan Jones, please contact me regarding Aldersyde, I believe my step-grandfather Hugo Powell (who died last year aged 94) used to live there and I have something you may like. You can find my contact details at ruthwalton.co.uk, thanks!
